Issue
When I initiate a Rainbow audio or video call, the call is not initiated and an error is displayed indicating: webRTCWarning No media is available. Please check your camera/microphone availability.
Root Cause
This problem occurs because the Rainbow Desktop application is not allowed to use the PC's microphone or camera.
It may be a problem with the privacy configuration of Windows 10 or also that the use of the microphone and/or camera is blocked by the antivirus application installed on the PC.
How to fix the issue
Step 1: Check Windows Privacy Settings
Depending on your version of Windows, the path to these settings differs slightly:
Windows 10: Settings > Privacy > Microphone and Settings > Privacy > Camera
Windows 11: Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera
- Make sure access is enabled for both the microphone and camera
- Scroll down to ensure desktop apps are allowed to use these devices
- Confirm that Rainbow is listed and has permission
Step 2: Check Antivirus Privacy Controls
Some antivirus programs include privacy protection features that may block access to your microphone or camera. Check the settings in your antivirus software:
- AVG: Data Protection
- Bitdefender: Privacy
- Kaspersky: Protection
- ESET Internet Security: Computer Protection
Disable any restrictions that may prevent Rainbow from accessing media devices.
