For OXO Connect and OXO Connect Evolution it is also possible to install the WebRTC gateway on a standalone PC instead of a Virtual Machine or an OCE FE.
This article describes how to install on a stand alone PC using a bootable USB stick.
Software Download
The WebRTC Gateway Software is subject to export control laws and you need to fill-in a form to request the access to the software (detailed instructions are on the ALE MyPortal). Today the software is available under OXO Connect R4.0 and OXO Connect Evolution R4.0 and above.
Overview
To install and to setup the ISO file of Rainbow WebRTC Gateway on a PC, you must:
- Download the ISO file from the ALE Business Portal site
- Create a Bootable USB drive
- Consult the list of most used hardware on the field to select your Standalone PC.
- Install the ISO file on the mini PC Storage device
- Reboot the standalone PC and setup the configuration parameters
Requirements
Hardware Requirements:
You need a fresh USB drive with at least 2 GBytes.
The process to make it bootable will erase all the content of this device, so take care to save its content if needed.
You need then a x86 PC, we advise to use a low-cost standalone PC with:
- At least 2 GBytes memory
- On storage device (e.g. 30 Gb)
- One USB connector
- One Ethernet connector
- A keyboard and display connector for manual configuration
Software requirements
You need a software to create a bootable USB drive. If you have not such a software, you can use RUFUS available here: https://rufus.akeo.ie

Creation of the USB device with the ISO file
USB creation
Start Rufus.exe program on your PC.
Insert an USB drive in an USB connector of your PC.
Check that this USB device appears in the device list of RUFUS.
Take care to select the right device, because its contain will be erased.
Then choose under Boot selection “Disk or ISO image”
click on the “SELECT” button and browse to the ISO file of the WebRTC.
Optionally, set the Volume Name, to easily recognize your USB.
Click the button START to start the ISO copy
If a warning requires additional downloads, click “YES”
Select the “Write in DD image mode”
Accept to erase all existing content on the USB drive.
Wait for the writing completion.
When finished, close Rufus application and eject properly the USB device.
WebRTC gateway installation
- Install your PC.
- Plug a keyboard and a screen.
- Insert the USB device in an USB connector of the PC
- Power-on the PC.
Choose to enter in the BOOT MENU, this is done most of the time by pressing F10.
Select the line with USB as boot drive, press ENTER.
A screen with the title Rainbow WebRTC Gateway Installer and with the Rainbow Icon must appear.
Make sure the line “Boot USB key” is selected and press ENTER
A new screen must appear with title “Rainbow WebRTC Gateway”.
Enter the Login password setup setup to start installation.
Reboot using CTRL-ALT-DEL and remove the USB key at reboot.
After restarting, you can follow the instructions in the installation guide from the chapter 1.2.2
