You can use this article when one Windows host must run connector services for several Rainbow companies. It explains how instances are separated so each company keeps its own registration, local console, port and runtime data.
When to use multiple instances
Use multiple instances when one Windows host must serve several Rainbow companies. Each Rainbow company has its own connector registration and its own Windows service instance.
Naming and ports
| Item | Rule |
|---|---|
| Service name | Additional instances use names such as RainbowADService_3002. |
| Local console port | Each instance has its own port in the 3000-3019 range. |
| Maximum concurrent instances | Up to 20 instances on one host. |
| Rainbow company | One connector instance is dedicated to one Rainbow company. |
Add a new instance
- Open the local console of an existing connector instance.
- Use the multiple instance management controls to add a new service.
- Open the new local console port.
- Register the new instance with the target Rainbow company.
- Configure LDAP synchronization for that company in Rainbow Web Admin.
Per-instance data location
Each instance stores its own configuration, tokens and logs in a per-port data folder. Do not manually copy encrypted configuration files between instances.
Auto-update
Auto-update applies to connector services installed on the host. Verify each instance after an update, especially when several companies depend on the same Windows machine.
Switch between instances
The local console Services list displays clickable links to other instances on the same host, making it possible to switch between local consoles.
