Rainbow require a stable and fast Internet connection to deliver optimal audio and video quality. Rainbow affers a tool to to evaluate the audio and connectivity quality.
Note: We recommend checking your firewall settings. Rainbow works with WebRTC, which might require some network configuration within larger companies with firewalls.
We recommend that you stop downloads, file sharing, calls and other video and music streaming services when performing a configuration test.
We recommend 5Mb/s upload and download for optimal results
Run a Connectivity Test
The test should take less than 60s and is divided into 3 parts: initialization, audio quality test, video and screen sharing quality test.
- From your " Profile, settings and support" menu, select the "Help and support" menu.
-
Select the "Test my configuration" menu. The configuration test window is open. Detected audio device and web browser (if you are uning Rainbow through web browser) are displayed for information.
- Press the "Start" button to start the test.
The following actions are made :
- Browser compatibility test.
If you are using Rainbow through a web browser, your browser has to be compatible with Rainbow app. The most web browsers are compatible, but if the test fails, please try another web browser. - Network connection quality
Audio, vidéo and screen sharing depend on the network connection.
An first test is run to find out whether the network connection is good enough for quality audio. If so, a second test is run to check if the network connection is good enough for quality video and screen sharing.
If the test fails, please try a tips described in the following chapter.
Enhance your Connection
you're using a Windows or Mac system, there are several steps you can take to enhance your connection. Here are some practical tips:
-
Check your internet speed
The first step to improving your connection is to check your current speed. Use online tools to measure your download and upload speeds. For high-quality audio and video communications, a download speed of at least 10 Mbps and an upload speed of at least 1 Mbps are recommended. -
Use a wired connection
While Wi-Fi is convenient, a wired Ethernet connection is often more stable and faster. If possible, connect your computer directly to your router with an Ethernet cable. This can reduce latency and connection interruptions. -
Optimize your Wi-Fi network
If a wired connection is not possible, optimize your Wi-Fi network:
Router placement: Place your router in a central, unobstructed location in your home or office.
Interference: Avoid placing your router near other electronic devices that might cause interference.
Wi-Fi channels: Use a Wi-Fi network analyzer to choose the least congested channel for your router. -
Update your equipment
Old routers can limit your Internet speed. If your equipment is more than five years old, consider upgrading to a newer model that supports the latest Wi-Fi standards (such as Wi-Fi 6). -
Control bandwidth usage
Other devices and applications using your network can reduce the bandwidth available for Rainbow. Identify and limit devices or applications that consume a lot of bandwidth, such as streaming services or background downloads. -
Configure Quality of Service (QoS)
Some routers allow you to configure Quality of Service (QoS), which lets you prioritize certain types of network traffic. Configure your router to prioritize VoIP and video traffic from the Rainbow application. -
Update software and drivers
Ensure your operating system, the Rainbow application, and your network card drivers are up to date. Updates can include performance improvements and bug fixes. -
Check security settings
Firewalls and security software can sometimes interfere with network performance. Ensure these programs are configured to allow Rainbow traffic without restrictions. -
Regularly restart your router
Restarting your router occasionally can resolve many connection issues. This can help refresh your Internet connection and fix performance problems.
